Located
on the edge of the city of Melbourne
are the delightful townships of Eltham,
Montmorency, Warrandyte, and Diamond
Creek. They sit peacefully in the natural
environment, embraced by the gum trees
and serenaded to by the native birds.
A little further out, and you come to
the more rural villages of Wattle Glen,
Hurstbridge, Kangaroo Ground, Panton
Hill and St. Andrews. The Yarra river
defines the southern boundary of this
area as it runs from the babbling rapids
of Warrandyte to Westerfolds Park, with
its open fields, walking and bike tracks
and picnic areas. To the north and east
are vistas of the Kinglake & Dandenong
ranges.
This beautiful area is easily accessed
via the Eastern freeway, through
Templestowe, or the ring road through
Greensborough, as well as the Hurstbridge
train line through many of the
main town centres. Its peaceful
rural beauty belies its close proximity
to major centres.
The area has long been well-known
for it’s artistic communities,
and it’s mud-brick houses,
and is becoming increasingly well-known
for its burgeoning wine industry.
